Science

The science curriculum at Rosetta teaches our children the knowledge and skills they need to encourage curiosity and provoke questioning in order to find out about the world and how it works. This curriculum is written with focus on developing different types of scientific enquiry and embedding deep, detailed understanding of scientific concepts over time. Through science, we aim to develop excitement and scientific language, raise questions and investigate the world we live in.

Each year group follows the science curriculum sequencing which allows them to explore various scientific skills and topics which derive from the National Curriculum Programmes of Study. The topics have been sequenced to ensure the children know more and remember more by building on their knowledge of natural phenomena. Within each sequence of lessons there is a focus on developing different types of scientific enquiry and embedding deep, detailed understanding of scientific skills and concepts over time. Many topics are revisited so that all children are given opportunities to continually build upon and develop their scientific understanding through repetition and rehearsal of skills to lead to automaticity.

We follow the National Curriculum as a basis and then provide further opportunities for our pupils through workshops and educational visits. Every year we take part in a Science week which sparks children’s enthusiasm for the subject even further through workshops, assemblies and a range of science enquiries in lessons.
