At Rosetta we cover a range of sports that gives the children a range of experiences and challenges. Most of these sports are covered in the Physical Education (P.E.) curriculum. In P.E. we cover dance, gymnastics, invasion games, swimming and Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA).

Our P.E. Subject Leader, Mr Poole has worked with the whole school on their gymnastics this year and has been using the new equipment the school has invested in.

 Swimming

Children are taken to Newham Leisure Centre during years 3-5 for one term each year for swimming lessons. School uses the following rota for attendance for these sessions; Autumn Term – year 4, Spring Term – year 5 and Summer Term – year 3. Instruction is given by trained swimming teachers at the pool. School staff do not teach swimming to the children, but do contribute to the teaching of water safety.

 Rosetta has appointed two Sport Leaders that extend the curriculum into the playground. With our new bright and stimulating playground the children enjoy a fair and safe environment break times, lunchtimes and in after school clubs.

The Sport Leaders organise a football competition between years group each term. They also organise a range of different sporting competition. The competitions we cover are from Paralympics, Olympic Sports to traditional sports e.g. rounders and netball.

Rosetta believes by giving our pupils the best playground experience they will gain:

·          A greater confidence to take part in activities at playtime,

·          Increased participation in physical activity at playtime,

·          Improved motor skills in structured playground games in the North Hall, Football league and 4-Square,

·          Social skills including sharing, communication and co-operative play,

·          Experiencing creative play,

We represent our school through many teams at games and tournaments at various levels which we have been very successful. Our latest achievement is our Cheerleading Team that represented the Newham Borough at Crystal Palace and we came second by ½ a point!

Each team is supported with our after-schools clubs that are run by trained coaches and ensure the children are competitive and have fun.
