Rosetta Primary School – Pupil Premium Grant

 

Schools receive a Pupil Premium Grant to help them support pupils who receive Free School Meals (FSM) or who are Children Looked After (CLA) by local authorities; and have been so continuously for more than six months.

 

The PPG is used effectively at Rosetta with achievement of FSM pupils being above national average for FSM pupils and for all pupils (FSM and non FSM) in 2011.

 

The PPG was £485 for each child in 2011-12 and was increased to £600 for each child for 2012-13.

 

The PPG for Rosetta School for 2011-12 was £98,698 and this funding, with the agreement of the Governing Body, was used to provide additional educational support to raise the standard of achievement of the identified pupils as follows:

·       The deployment of additional teaching assistants to operate the ‘reading team’ in years 1-3 to ensure all children make good progress with their reading and phonics development and that every child is heard read on a daily basis; which supported children to make good or better progress in the key skill of reading and their understanding of phonics.

·       Part funding for the School’s Councillor who works with individual and small groups of children (and on occasions their families); which supported children, some of whom are vulnerable of underachieving, in doing their best in school.

·       Part funding for individual support for children with specific needs who do not have a statement or receive exceptional needs funding; which supported those children who are most vulnerable of under-achievement through focussed interventions.

·       Funding for staff to operate homework after school clubs for key stage 1 and two in key stage 2; which supported children to undertake homework tasks, some of whom may have found it difficult to complete this work at home.

 

The PPG for Rosetta School for 2011-12 is £117,600 and this funding, with the agreement of the Governing Body, is used to provide additional educational support to raise the standard of achievement of the identified pupils as follows:

·       The deployment of additional teaching staff to ensure smaller class sizes for English lessons in years 3-6; which will support all pupils in making accelerated progress in their learning in this subject.

·       The deployment of an additional teacher (.5 contract) to work with focus groups of pupils across the school to enhance their progress in English; which will focus on supporting a range of focus groups of children in their learning.

·       The deployment of additional teaching assistants to operate two ‘reading teams’ in years 1-3 to ensure all children make good progress with their reading and phonics development and that every child is heard read on a daily basis; which will support children in making good or better progress in the key skill of reading and their understanding of phonics.
